| Women Engineers Commend Lagos On Infrastructure |

The Lagos State government has been commended for its efforts at infrastructure regeneration that has seen many roads and streets in the state
reconstructed.
Women engineers under the aegis of Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Lagos Chapter, who made this
commendation during a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Kadri Hamzat, particularly commended the state
for the on-going reconstruction and upgrading of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Felicia Abubakar, the association’s chairman, who led the
delegation to the commissioner’s office in Ikeja, disclosed that their mission is to stimulate women engineers to achieve excellence in the
engineering profession. Hamzat described the state government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal as a basis for boosting its economy,
adding that in line with the state’s policy thrust of Poverty Alleviation and Sustained Economic Growth, the ministry had initiated a number of
projects designed to eradicate poverty through employment generation and promotion of an enabling environment. The commissioner noted that
the revitalization or renewal of infrastructure had and positive impact properity values. He added that with a budget of $2.5 billion, the state faces
a shortfall in resources to meet the $20 billion infrastructure deficit. According to him, about 80 percent of the state’s contract will soon be
awarded to ensure that the state takes advantage of dry season to undertake construction. While stating that the Ministry will partner with the
APWEN in promoting participation of women engineers in the State’s development agenda, the commissioner noted that apart from those
employed by the state, consultancy jobs have been given to women engineers too. |
