According to the web-based Wikipedia, ‘affordable housing’ is a term used to describe dwelling units whose total housing costs are deemed "affordable" to those that have a
median income*.
Western societies have found median incomes more reliable to work with than average incomes, because of the greater tendency for distortion where some in the group have
a disproportionately higher or lower income than the others. This would perhaps to be even more so in a developing country like Nigeria, where only 10% of the population
earn almost 40% of total nationwide incomes.

being in the first place are not frontally addressed. The root causes of slum development include the lack of access to planned and titled land by the poor, on terms they can
afford; and access to housing finance. Great opportunities await aggressively proactive governments that have a heart for their people and are willing to encourage mass
housing provision as a key social responsibility to their teeming electorates.

Development, Ms Ama Pepple who made this known in Abuja last week while receiving the governing board of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) said that discussion has
begun between the ministry, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant stakeholders.
